Education and Employment

LGBTIQ+ individuals face rejections from their families and society, this often leaves them homeless or with minimal resources to continue education, thus, minimizing their employment opportunities.

Equal employment and educational opportunity.

Education: with minimal support, LGBTIQ+ individuals find it difficult to enroll in educational institutes, especially from high school into college. Absence of family and institutional support results in lack of finances needed to continue their education, and on the long haul, the LGBTIQ+ individuals are unable to connect with employment opportunities.

Employment: LGBTIQ+ are discriminated against at the different work environments and are often fired from their jobs once their sexual orientation/identity is revealed. In addition to the lack of educational opportunities, and the discrimination the LGBTIQ community experiences, gender roles and even appearances that come with the expectations of society might stand in the way of the LGBTIQ’s employment, too.

Although sexual orientation and gender identity have no relationship to workplace performance, the discrimination against the LBGTIQ at work is still at high levels, which negatively affects LGBTIQ+ people in terms of mental health, wages, job opportunities, and productivity in the workplace.
